Production Systems Support Engineer

Do you want an innovative environment, technical challenges, brilliant colleagues in addition to business stability? Wall Street on Demand, Inc. has doubled in size the last two years and continues to look for exceptional people who want to solve hard problems and truly make a difference at work. Check out our website for all of our current opportunities - www.wallst.com.

What You Offer:

Wall Street on Demand, Inc. is seeking a Production Systems Support Engineer.

This position provides support for Wall Street on Demand's Data Acquisition and Document Management systems, which process incoming and outgoing data feeds containing financial information and store that content for searching. Fast paced, quick learning environment where you are working directly on the engineering team who have built and maintain these systems. It is expected that you learn how the data feeds work, and can troubleshoot them efficiently and provide root cause resolution or make recommendations as to resolutions.

Because this position is working with the same tools that the engineering teams have built, you must be comfortable in a basic scripting environment (javascript/perl), as well as be able to perform basic SQL queries on data, and understand how XML works with XSLT. The high standards of this position mean that it is more challenging and demanding than a help desk technician. It is a highly multitasked position requiring patience and poise.

Occasional contact with outside data providers and clients of our company means professionalism and clear communication is incredibly important. Dispatch feed failures to internal systems administrators or systems programmers as necessary.

Wall Street On Demand is a growing company and as such is open minded to creative ideas from anyone. This position expects that - we will be looking to you to come up with ideas on how lessen our production support burden on our ever growing data feeds. Simply scaling linearly the amount of troubleshooting we put into production support isn't an option; we are looking for creative ways to tackle problems.
Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum 2 years higher education.

Wall Street on Demand, Inc. is a dynamic, growing organization, headquartered at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, CO, focused on the design, development and hosting of financial web sites, reports, and tools. Analysis Phase:
In the Analysis Phase, the OA is the skin in the game for operations during early design and vendor analysis. At this phase, the OA defines/enforces initial requirements for security, maintainability, monitoring, data retention, scalability, reporting and performance. The OA will ensure that logging complies with established standards around level of detail, format and location.

Design:
In the Design Phase, the OA works with development/COTS vendors to establish a scaling model, gathers availability requirements and loops in necessary SMEs such as the Security team, Network Engineers, SAN engineers, etc. The OA also works closely with development to ensure that the initial design adheres to the operational requirements established in the previous phase. These diagrams are used as blueprints by the different teams to purchase/build the environments.

Development:
In the Development Phase, the OA works with the dev team to validate assumptions related to the scaling model and application performance. Once final scaling numbers are established and changes in sizing are accounted for, the hardware orders are placed. The OA reviews in the system design in detail with the impacted operations teams. Also during this phase, the OA facilitates an Operational Review between development and the production support teams and a Security Review between development and the security team(s).
