SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II
The Computational and Information Systems Laboratory at the National
Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, seeks an
individual to administer web-related services. Responsible for
administering, maintaining, and improving web hardware and software
infrastructure. This includes Sun Cluster systems, Apache web servers,
Tomcat web application servers, web proxies, relational databases, CGI
scripts, Perl libraries, SSL libraries and Certificate Authorities;
creation of additional logical web sites; and assisting web content
developers with configuration requests. Maintains the web server
architecture and directly supports WEG customers. Demonstrates advanced
knowledge and abilities in researching, testing, and developing new web
infrastructure and services.
Ensures that web server systems are operational 24x7. Works with vendors
to resolve hardware and operating system problems quickly and with a
minimum of downtime. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in the evaluation
and testing of new web technologies. Implements and installs new web
software on web servers as necessary. This includes basic web software
infrastructure, new web services, and tools for content providers.
Applies patches to existing software in a timely manner to keep versions
current and avoid known security exploits.
Requires Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and
experience in at least two programming languages (e.g., Java, Perl, PHP,
or C). Must have advanced knowledge of multi-user UNIX operating systems
such as Solaris and Linux, and system components. Requires strong
knowledge of computer security practices, and extensive experience with
administering Apache web servers, modules and web application servers
(e.g., Tomcat). Requires knowledge of relational database systems (e.g.,
MySQL, Oracle) and strong knowledge of Internet technologies including
TCP/IP networking, web servers and proxies, asynchronous communication
software, encryption software, CGI, Java, and SSL.
